GIF Expert Commentary for Strefa Biznesu

Today, the Prime Minister announced changes to the Council of Ministers. Among the key appointments was the establishment of the Ministry of Energy, headed by Minister Miłosz Motyka.

Dr Grzegorz Kądzielawski, an expert at the Green Industry Foundation, shared his views with the business magazine Strefa Biznesu on the key challenges awaiting the new minister.

"The Ministry's top priorities will include finalizing a long-term strategy for Poland's energy sector, implementing new capacity market regulations, and addressing the future financing of coal-based power generation beyond 2028. Another major challenge will be ensuring the stability of the energy system as the share of renewable energy sources—including biogas—continues to grow, which will require significant investment in energy storage and flexible technologies. Energy security and reducing dependence on imports must go hand in hand with a just transition for coal regions, supported by long-term financing of the transformation process," said Dr Kądzielawski.
