On 14 August 2026, another meeting of European Green Network (EGN) took place – a European network of organisations working together for an effective, responsible and knowledge-based transformation of the economy. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the activities carried out in the first half of 2026, discuss ongoing initiatives and partnerships, and define cooperation priorities for the coming months.
One of the main topics of the meeting was the prospect of piloting the Global Industry Supplier Sustainability Standard (GI3S) in EGN member countries and the opportunities for its further development and scaling across the European market. The discussion covered benchmarking of solutions currently used in supplier sustainability audits, identifying their limitations, and assessing the advantages GI3S can offer as a comprehensive tool supporting sustainability management in European supply chains.
Participants also analysed the potential for the first implementation of the standard in individual European countries and sectors of the economy. The discussion covered possible pilot models, including cooperation with a single industrial company, sectoral projects, national partnerships, the development of an audit model, and cooperation with chambers of commerce, clusters and industry organisations.
A significant part of the discussion was also devoted to the role of the European partner network in the further development of GI3S. Organisations involved in EGN can participate in this process as implementation, audit, scientific, industry, training and communication partners. This model of cooperation makes it possible to combine international expertise with experience and knowledge of the specific characteristics of individual national markets.
The meeting also served to review the implementation of the Annual Action Plan 2026 in the first half of the year, exchange information on ongoing activities, partnerships and communication, and discuss European Green Network priorities for the second half of 2026.
The objective of EGN is to gradually move from the exchange of knowledge and experience towards concrete European projects, pilots and joint solutions supporting the sustainable transformation of the economy and European supply chains.
